Female DJs have experienced significant growth, but men still dominate the industry

The International Music Summi t recently published its annual report on the electronic music industry in May.  The rise of electronic music on various online platforms, and the industry's record-breaking value exceeding 11 billion dollars.  According to the findings, electronic music represents 39% of festivals, marking a 6% increase in bookings compared to 2021.  However, when examining the Top 100 DJs, female DJs accounted for only 15% of bookings and events, reflecting a 6% decline from 2021.  In terms of total bookings, female DJs experienced a remarkable growth of 199% in terms of the number of guests.  Although this growth is noteworthy, it still falls short when compared to male DJs, who achieved a 344% increase in bookings and hits. IMS acknowledges that securing DJ engagements is a highly competitive business, but these statistics remain concerning despite the observed growth.  IMS reveals that female DJs face pressure to maintain a visually ap...

Vinyl sales have increased 108% in 2021

Some would say that the gramophone record is a medium of the past, but vinyl is experiencing a real revolution in the 21st century.  The records experienced the peak of their careers from the 1920s to the 1980s, after which the demand for them suddenly disappeared, due to the appearance of CDs. Today, many experts and people from the industry claim that gramophone culture has never been completely eradicated, but that its presence has simply been less in certain periods of time. Vinyl has practically never stopped being produced and sold, primarily thanks to DJs and DJ culture. This boom in sales is an impressive 108% increase in comparison to the same time period in 2020 where 9.2 million vinyl records were sold. Although Vinyl for the last few years has started to consistently outperform CD sales, which in the first half of 2021 stood at 18.9 million units sold.  Some of the top-selling vinyl releases of the year include Harry Styles’ ‘Fine Line’, Billie Eilish’s ‘Wh...

The emergence of the SL-1200GR turntable, which comes as an affordable version of its SL-1200G brother, was announced earlier this year at CES 2017 in the all-around desert city of light, shadow, desire, and risk, Las Vegas.  The release of director Ogawa once again confirms the commitment of her company to the DJ culture and marks the change of attitude compared to what Creative Director Hiro Morishita told New York Times the previous month, pushed DJs into the background as a clientele for a new line with a sentence: "Our concept is analogue to hi-fi listening list. DJs are all right, but as a marketing target problematic, we do not want 1200 to sell as the best DJ-ing tool 1200 is 1200. " - directing, of course, like a DJ funnel over some more expe...
