Documentary Film: "How Techno Was Born: From Detroit to Berlin and Back"

 A new documentary explores how the techno genre spread from Detroit to Berlin, which is today's epicenter of techno. The film features interviews with some of the most significant figures from the early days of the techno scene: Juan Atkins, Alan Oldham (DJ T-1000), Ellen Allien, and Tresor founder Dimitri Hegemann. Additionally, archival footage of interviews with DJ Detroit and Paul van Dyk also make appearances.  For those who might raise concerns about the omission of some pioneers of the scene, primarily Kraftwerk , it's important to note that the film's focus is squarely on techno and the Detroit-Berlin relationship. Croatian Techno duo DBFB has a new EP titled "Stones."

Following their successful spring release "1987," the Istrian duo continued their quality work in the studio. Poreč-based Techno duo DBFB has released a new EP called " Stones " on their own label, After Us Records.  With the "Stones" EP, DBFB presents four new groovy tracks in the style of Detroit techno with avant-garde funk influences.  The new EP consists of four tracks - two original mixes, "Small Stone" and "Stepping Stone," along with two remixes by Orion and Philippe Petit.  Finnish DJ, producer, and radio host Orion has created a remix for the track "Small Stone."  Belgian DJ and producer Philippe Petit takes listeners on an avant-garde SF-funk adventure with his remix of "Stepping Stone," crafted for the summer.  The remix is an atypical combination of techno with pronounced organic melodic elements akin to guitar, almost resembling tango.  The EP "Stones" i s currently available for listenin

The spring edition of the legendary Time Warp festival returns

After a four-year break, the spring edition of T ime Warp festival is returning to its home in Mannheim, Germany on April 1st.  This year's event will feature 19 hours of music on 6 dance floors, with over 40 headliners including world-famous DJs such as Sven Vath, Adam Beyer, Amelie Lens, Richie Hawtin, Charlotte de Witte, Nina Kraviz, The Martinez Brothers, Paul Temple, Ricardo Vilalobos, Marco Carola, Seth Troxler, and Dixon. In Croatia, the easing of epidemiological measures has been announced

A new book on Berlin club culture is coming out in May 2022

 A new book 'Coming To Berlin' that explores various elements of the Berlin nightlife scene should be published in May 2022.  ‘Coming To Berlin: Global Journeys Into An Electronic Music And Club Culture’ told through Paul Hanford’s novelistic narrative mixes imagination and interview, psychogeography and narrative, humor and horror. Each chapter follows encounters with the people who made the city their own. Due for May, the new book explores the German capital over the decades following “intimate encounters with migrants, settlers and newcomers who have made the city their own." Coming to Berlin also aims to step away from the boilerplate of Berlin as a “techno city”, and hopes to shed light on more intimate club culture through interviews, stories, and encounters with musicians. Among those interviewed are Mark Reeder, Monica Kruse and Love Parade founder Danelle DePicciotto, who talk about how their lives were connected by urban punk and 1980s art movement Genialle D

Techno night “House Of God“ in new museum exhibition in Birmingham, England

 Captured by legendary photographer Terence Donovan, who spent a night at Que Club in 1996 , the exhibition is to take place in April 2022 at Birmingham’s Museum & Art Gallery. Terence was famous for photographing royalty and legends such as Princess Diana and Jimi Hendrix, and was introduced to Club Que by his son and DJ Dan Donovan .  Stepping out of his comfort zone, he captured the scene, which a special motive for normal, everyday people to let go, dance and enjoy themselves. Jez Collins, curator of the forthcoming In The Que exhibition at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, discovered the photos while interviewing Wishart for a documentary about Que Club. Ten of the 65 images will be included in the exhibition, which opens on April 28th. "It's an amazing find after all these years," Collins told the Guardian. Sountrakcs of "The Matrix Resurrections" also includes techno artists

Numerous Berlin techno artists have made remixes for the music of the long-awaited sequel to The Matrix Resurrections. The original music for the movie  'The Matrix Resurrections'  was created by electronic music artist  Johnny Klimek , director, and composer of Run Lola Run - Tom Tykwer. The duo has been working through the partnership for almost 25 years, and they were nominated for an Oscar for their work.  In addition to the original score, the list includes 35 songs and numerous remixes by influential DJs, including German techno artists Marcel Dittmann, Gudrun Gut and System 01. The history of French techno is explored in new documentary

A new documentary by Laurent Garnier: Off the Record exploring the origins and rise of techno music.   The documentary explores these themes from the perspective of Laurent Garnier, French DJ and producer, and is directed by Gabin Rivoire.  Garnier was instrumental in techno’s rise within Paris and Manchester , frequenting the Hacienda and other venues that contributed to the success of techno worldwide. This documentary immerses the audience in the world of techno music by following one of the most emblematic figures of this culture.  The emerging director Gabin Rivoire convinced Laurent Garnier to give him complete and never before seen personal and professional access for the past three years. Rave The Planet Parade Promotes Techno Culture

  Exactly one year ago, Berlin’s Rave The Planet gGmbH (non-profit) was launched and is therefore celebrating its first small anniversary of existence.  Not a matter of course after a year like 2020.  Rave The Planet has already successfully received over 390,000.00 Euros in donations from over 24,000 people from all over the world. Among other goals, to realise a new parade in Berlin in the spirit of the original Love Parade. The non-profit organisation, which includes techno legend Dr. Motte, focuses on three major goals:  1. To protect, promote and develop the culture of electronic dance music in all its forms. And to develop it further. To promote its own as well as other charitable projects in the long term.  2. Richie Hawtin – Time Warps EP [From Our Minds]

Richie Hawtin releases ‘ Time Warps ’, his first dancefloor-centric EP since ‘Minus Orange’, released in 1999.  This is the first release from From Our Minds (FOM1) , a new extension of Hawtin’s Plus 8 label.  In this new release, Hawtin gives us a couple of new club songs, secretly recorded and with a combined duration of more than 30 minutes.  "Time Warps" portrays the blurred and stretched perception of time that has been so characteristic in 2020. Awakenings message to the Dutch government - Techno culture is going to extinction

  Awakenings promotes # technotogether campaign with all ravers, artists, managers, and other members of the techno community.  Through this movement , they seek to make a powerful statement to the government of the Netherlands and to the rest of the world so that people involved in the industry are taken seriously in this context in which an entire culture is in danger of disappearing.  "As soon as creative companies and institutions do not survive this crisis, there will be no more new artists or other creatives on this stage to build. Think photographers, dancers, DJs, sound and light professionals, the production team, bar staff, club and event managers, the list goes on and on", they explain in a statement.  To spread the message they created a video, a Photoshop filter, a Facebook filter, and an Instagram filter so they can join together ‘from listeners to ravers, from artists to festival and club teams, managers, agents, and vendors’.  Check out the video and so

Berlin Senate Agrees for Emergency Fund to Save Creative Culture

Once again German senate is surprising and supporting us 😇  The club culture in Berlin was already at risk at the beginning of the year, but the impact of COVID-19 only threatens to deepen the crisis.   Small businesses like clubs and other creative institutions can apply for up to €15,000 for a 3-month grant to help them through the shutdown and quarantine. Berlin federal government is also offering aid to artists, creative spaces in Berlin, and platforms like United We Stream. [ source ] 

The owner of the cult techno club Tresor, announced a new club

The founder and owner of Tresor , Dimitri Hegemann , will open  a new club in southwestern Germany . new club He currently lives in Berlin , but this visionary and founder of Tresor was born in Westphalia in 1954, where he will open a new club, he stated this via Facebook post, adding that this its dream come true. Dimitri Hegemann I was born in a little village in Westphalia. And since many years I wanted to run a small club with an excellent soundsystem and effective acoustic treatment here in Westphalia. Somewhere in a raw... The place has not yet been named, but the uncompromising soundsystem inside the raw cellar is already promised. As for the program that will take place at the club, the team will focus on international guest appearances and also promote local talent. The opening date has not yet been announced.
