200,000 people attend Berlin's Rave The Planet parade

Around 200,000 people hit the streets of Berlin on Saturday, July 9th, for Rave The Planet, the first event of its kind in the city in more than 15 years. Photo: Gm Hammond This was a very free parade , which featured over 100 DJs and a variety of floats from d ifferent crews and collectives.  Dr. Motte, the man responsible for Berlin’s first acid house parties in the late-1980s, and the Love Parade , co-founded Rave The Planet in 2020 to bring the massive street party back to Berlin for the first time since 2010.  "What a day. Unbelievable. We brought the spirit of the Love Parade back to Berlin. We did it, and with the best intentions. We, as the non-profit Rave the Planet organisation, worked long and hard on it. We all felt the rhythm and the bass in the streets of Berlin and the music brought us together." - said Motte to DJMAG. The last official L ove Parade in Berlin was in 2006. The events stopped worldwide several years later, after 21 people died in a crush

Demonstrations are for the same values that brought the participants of the Love Parade to the streets: love, peace, friendship, solidarity, diversity, respect and of course music, music, music. There will be a parade through Berlin that presents a diverse variety of electronic music. What is changing is, for example, the name. The new parade is called "Rave The Planet Parade" . This takes over the original vision of the Love Parade, that one da

A new book on Berlin club culture is coming out in May 2022

A new book 'Coming To Berlin' that explores various elements of the Berlin nightlife scene should be published in May 2022.  ‘Coming To Berlin: Global Journeys Into An Electronic Music And Club Culture’ told through Paul Hanford’s novelistic narrative mixes imagination and interview, psychogeography and narrative, humor and horror. Each chapter follows encounters with the people who made the city their own. Due for May, the new book explores the German capital over the decades following “intimate encounters with migrants, settlers and newcomers who have made the city their own." Coming to Berlin also aims to step away from the boilerplate of Berlin as a “techno city”, and hopes to shed light on more intimate club culture through interviews, stories, and encounters with musicians. Among those interviewed are Mark Reeder, Monica Kruse and Love Parade founder Danelle DePicciotto, who talk about how their lives were connected by urban punk and 1980s art movement Genialle D
