Deutsche Welle: Marijuana is legal in Germany, but "cannabis is not broccoli"

Cannabis is legalized, in Germany. Adults can legally possess and consume cannabis. According to the Ministry of Health, more than four million people in Germany occasionally or regularly consume cannabis, even though it was illegal until now. You can have 25 grams with you, even up to 50 grams at home. Weed smoking is also allowed in public - but not during the day in pedestrian areas, if children and young people are present or within sight of children's playgrounds, kindergartens and schools. There is a prohibited zone of 100 meters around the entrance. The Minister of Health, refers to a stricter criminal policy for the protection of young people.  Anyone who gives cannabis to children and adolescents must expect a prison sentence. Adult consumption is allowed, but the amount and proportion of the psychoactive substance THC are limited for those under 21 years of age. At the same time, an information campaign is planned, which is intended to warn young people about the danger

200,000 people attend Berlin's Rave The Planet parade

Around 200,000 people hit the streets of Berlin on Saturday, July 9th, for Rave The Planet, the first event of its kind in the city in more than 15 years. Photo: Gm Hammond This was a very free parade , which featured over 100 DJs and a variety of floats from d ifferent crews and collectives.  Dr. Motte, the man responsible for Berlin’s first acid house parties in the late-1980s, and the Love Parade , co-founded Rave The Planet in 2020 to bring the massive street party back to Berlin for the first time since 2010.  "What a day. Unbelievable. We brought the spirit of the Love Parade back to Berlin. We did it, and with the best intentions. We, as the non-profit Rave the Planet organisation, worked long and hard on it. We all felt the rhythm and the bass in the streets of Berlin and the music brought us together." - said Motte to DJMAG. The last official L ove Parade in Berlin was in 2006. The events stopped worldwide several years later, after 21 people died in a crush

Berlin: The Love Parade returns in the heart of summer after a 16-year pause

The last Love Parade in Berlin was held in 2006 with 1.2 million visitors , and the last Love Parade in general was held in 2010 in Duisburg with tragic consequences. Love Parade was a big, colorful celebration of electronic music and techno culture . Millions of people from all over the world gathered to dance on the streets of Berlin. Get involved and help with a donation to hold the Rave The Planet Parade on July 9, 2022. What remains, what will change? What remains the same is that the organizers are calling for demonstrations. Demonstrations are for the same values that brought the participants of the Love Parade to the streets: love, peace, friendship, solidarity, diversity, respect and of course music, music, music. There will be a parade through Berlin that presents a diverse variety of electronic music. What is changing is, for example, the name. The new parade is called "Rave The Planet Parade" . This takes over the original vision of the Love Parade, that one da

A new book on Berlin club culture is coming out in May 2022

A new book 'Coming To Berlin' that explores various elements of the Berlin nightlife scene should be published in May 2022.  ‘Coming To Berlin: Global Journeys Into An Electronic Music And Club Culture’ told through Paul Hanford’s novelistic narrative mixes imagination and interview, psychogeography and narrative, humor and horror. Each chapter follows encounters with the people who made the city their own. Due for May, the new book explores the German capital over the decades following “intimate encounters with migrants, settlers and newcomers who have made the city their own." Coming to Berlin also aims to step away from the boilerplate of Berlin as a “techno city”, and hopes to shed light on more intimate club culture through interviews, stories, and encounters with musicians. Among those interviewed are Mark Reeder, Monica Kruse and Love Parade founder Danelle DePicciotto, who talk about how their lives were connected by urban punk and 1980s art movement Genialle D

Techno clubs recognised as concerts by German high court

Techno and house events now qualify as concerts following the ruling of a German high finance court.  Clubs now only have to pay a 7% tax on ticket sales whereas previously they needed to fork over 19% .  So long as a club’s average visitor is there for the music, said the court, its owners qualify for the tax cut.  Accordingly, the law now formally recognizes DJs as musicians and techno as music. CDJs, turntables and mixers are also now defined as instruments. Alcohol sales have no bearing on a club’s eligibility.  The judgement was handed down on July 23rd but only published on October 29th. The legislation speaks to German lawmakers continued recognition of electronic music’s cultural value; in 2016 Berghain saw a similar tax break after a court deemed it “high art.”  Meanwhile, bars, clubs and venues in Germany will be forced to close from November 2nd-30th on account of a fall COVID-19 resurgence throughout much of Europe. Berlin's Berghain to host first techno party since March

Berghain club will host a techno party on Saturday and Sunday - but it will look different than in pre-pandemic times. Let's say we started to create new world ;)  “Club won’t be opening its oft-dubbed “hardest door in the world” - named for its notoriously picky bouncer - but holding the event outside, and with face masks.” says thelocal.de. Starting from 4 pm on Saturday , clubbers will be welcome in Berghain’s summer garden.  “After a long break, we will dare to start the summer slowly,” organisers wrote on the club’s homepage.  Like the entire Berlin club scene, Berghain has been closed since March 14th, and a reopening of the clubs themselves is not in sight due to the pandemic.  Berghain , however, has found other ways to stay in business, such as hosting an unusual acoustic sound exhibition which stretches through the end of this weekend.  For the garden party - which will take place with a limited number of guests and only in good weather - the Berghain has planned hygi

The first German rave since coronavirus

Coconut Beach Club In Münster, Germany , opened its doors to open air party with Gerd Janson on May 21th 2020. The event had a total of 100 attendees, as many as are currently allowed, while the club can normally accommodate 1500 to 2000 people.  The ticket price was € 70 , and as measures are relaxed, the plan is to increase the club's capacity to 250 people with much cheaper tickets.  The party was approved and held under strict measures and rules of coronavirus defense, and it looks like this:  - mandatory protective mask;  - everyone gets their circle on the dance floor, marked with chalk or artificial grass in which they can dance;  - everyone has their place at the table; physical distance 1.5 meters. In their own circle party members were able to take off their masks so that they would not endanger anyone.  Club manager Thomas Pieper told WDR that there is no profit from such events.  The goal of the party was to cover expenses and show signs of life.  This event was jus

Berlin Senate Agrees for Emergency Fund to Save Creative Culture

Once again German senate is surprising and supporting us 😇  The club culture in Berlin was already at risk at the beginning of the year, but the impact of COVID-19 only threatens to deepen the crisis.   Small businesses like clubs and other creative institutions can apply for up to €15,000 for a 3-month grant to help them through the shutdown and quarantine. Berlin federal government is also offering aid to artists, creative spaces in Berlin, and platforms like United We Stream. [ source ]

Movie - "Free Tekno" - world travelers who organize illegal parties in the forests

Free Tekno is a journey into the true underground of illegal underground techno festivals in Central Europe. The director travels with a group of Dutch and Irish young men who organize  illegal rave parties  in the forests of  Germany  and the  Czech  Republic. This is called the  underground   that is often written or referred to, but we rarely see it. As one interviewee puts it:   "We don't want money to profit, we do this out of love and be at a positive zero; if we make money, we use the money for travel or vacation expenses." "How many  parties  like this are made in which we are at all times exposed to the police shutting down music and confiscating equipment, but when you live for  electronic  music and have  enthusiasm , you do not think about blue caps" -  a director with Gunnar Hauth.
