New Short Film “When the Music Ends” Illustrates the Reality of Sexual Harassment in the Electronic Music Industry

A new short film has been released to expose the truth about sexual harassment in the electronic music industry.

The film is called “When the Music Ends” and was created by Berlin-based production house Spilled Milk, directed by Mo Kanaan and starring British DJ and producer Rebekah.

The film is based on true stories from people who have remained anonymous and is based on a study by the Electronic Music Inclusion Initiative (EMII). The study covered 28 countries and reported over 615 incidents of harassment, ranging from insults to unwanted touching.

What does this film show?

In just five minutes, it portrays what many people have experienced in nightlife and shows how harassment takes a physical and mental toll on victims. This effort aims to raise awareness of these issues in the electronic music scene.

Along with the film, a new website has been created to inform people about panel discussions and to raise funds for 2025.

A new law has come into force in the UK requiring employers to take measures to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace, which the Nightclub Industry Association called an important step.

New initiatives – To combat harassment, Sam Hennerley and Jack Young have launched a project called Safer Dance that provides training for nightclubs in the UK.

The film “When The Music Ends” will be part of this program, which aims to improve safety for everyone.

We invite you to watch the film “When the Music Ends” and reflect on this very important topic for safety in the music industry.
