The Fourth Zagreb Festival of Light opened in front of the Croatian National Theater
The festival was opened by Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević with messages of hope, togetherness and peace. HNK is among 31 locations where light attractions will be shown until March 20, reports Index. During the opening of the Festival, the facades of the Croatian National Theater and the Museum of Arts and Crafts and the School of Applied Arts and Design, both of which are being renovated after the 2020 earthquake, were illuminated by nature, and the nearby Mimara Museum by 3D mapping technology.
At the same time, the installed installations were turned on at all other locations, which was followed by a multitude of gathered citizens and tourists, who, according to Mayor Tomašević, are more and more in Zagreb.
"I am very glad that this project exists, for which, thanks to TZGZ and partners, they have done an amazing job. This event is slowly becoming one of the brands of the city of Zagreb and we can be proud of that," said Tomasevic.
He also said that "it is important that we have little light in this difficult time and that the Festival will be an enlightenment for us to be better."
The director of the Tourist Board, Martina Bienenfeld, said that the time was right for the Festival because it brought positive energy of light, good emotions and beautiful scenes.
She added that there are significantly more attractions and locations at this Festival than at the previous three (before the pandemic, which is why the Festival had a two-year break), and she thanked many partners, institutions and artists for their cooperation.
Among them are, for the first time, international guests from Berlin and Sarajevo. Berliners will pour light on the facades of HNK, MUO and Mimara and set up a four-meter high light installation of Earth and Mars on Petar Preradović Square and Tkalčićeva Street, while guests from Sarajevo will show an interactive light sculpture (Pulsating) Heart of Europe, which follows 3D mapping heart rate and allows all visitors to write or read wishes for a better future in augmented reality.
These are some of the 15 locations in the Lower Town that were included in the Festival for the first time this year, along with the previous 15 locations in the Upper Town, where light attractions will be on until Sunday, March 20, every day from 6 to 11 p.m.
In addition to these attractions created by light technologies, the festival is accompanied by a rich program, including a performance by the Gavella Theater in the Observatory, an exhibition of the UNICEF Museum of Reality at the Zagreb Dance Center, a themed night race Glow run on Saturday, opera music ...
The Grič Tunnel, the Funicular, Ban Jelačić Square, the Tuškanac Forest Park and other locations in the city center will also be illuminated with light and artistic creations.
