New report highlights the effects of DJs on climate change

A new report by German organisation Clean Scene has focused on the effects that international DJs have on climate change.  The report, titled ‘ Last Night a DJ Took a Flight, ’ is described as “exploring the carbon footprint of touring DJs and looking towards alternative futures within the dance music industry. Clean Scene analysed the carbon footprint of Resident Advisor’s top 1000 DJs touring in 2019.  They found that between them the DJs take 51,000 flights annually, travelling 117 million kilometres.   This uses 3.2million litres of fuel, releasing 35million kg of CO2 into the air.   They note that this is equivalent to 20,000 households’ electricity for one year, powering 8000 festivals for three days, or pressing 25 million records. “The demand for a small number of DJs to tour constantly is the result of an environmentally unsustainable industry” the report reads.  “And an industry that we have an opportunity to collectively reimagine.” The report also “By travelling over 118,

Documentary from the series RA Real Scenes - Sydney

Since 2014, Sydney’s Australian nightclubs have been struggling to survive .  Cruel licensing regulations , better known as locking laws, have closed many places and left others at a dead end. But despite this, the underground scene still lives outside the city center.  Parties are held in warehouses , parks or anywhere outdoors, where people can gather and set up a good loudspeaker .  A deep sense of passion , commitment and creativity is shaping a new era of electronic music in Sydney .  The RA team talks to DIY promoters and artists whose spirit never dies making Sydney a world-class dance venue, even if such events take place completely in the shadows. Watch documentary below!  Enjoy!  [ source ]

What Makes Ecstasy so Dangerous: High Society

British people statistically take more MDMA in one session than any other country on the planet .   And not just a little bit more: on average, Brits take 420 milligrams per session.   To put that in perspective, Germans , the same people who invented minimal techno and nightclubs that stay open for 60 hours – take only 200 milligrams.  It’s still one of the safest drugs to take, but last year, ecstasy-related deaths reached their highest level in a decade, and now it’s back in the headlines.   Some people say it’s drug dealers’ responsibility for selling pills that are dangerously strong and cut with adulterants.  Other people point to the government, who have failed to reduce the supply of ecstasy and are refusing to embrace harm reduction strategies that have worked in Europe.  Of course it’s also possible that the issue lies with British drug users themselves, who sometimes need reminding that the barometer of a good night out isn’t how much of your tongue is left at the end

PARTY REVIEW: TKNO at club Basstore, Prishtina, Kosovo

Pristina is becoming one of the favorite destinations for me!                 If you ask me, why, here's the answer!                 On December 16th, “ Next Level ” organization hosted a very good party at  BASStore club  in Prishtina with one of the most current techno DJs from Serbia,  TKNO !                 Again, a small but selected team of clubbers from Novi Pazar and Pristina gathered at  club Basstore . We got in the club, around 2:30am when  TKNO  already was spinning at dj booth.                 BASStore  is one of the underground club these days. Very good sound system, new one, as far as I could note from the last party, but in my opinion it was too much for that club. The sound was super massive at the dance floor.                Audience at  Basstore Club  that night, was again diverse, which is very interesting for me as a clubber following electronic scene for 20 years. Although, by statistic Kosovo has more women than for men, the boys

Party review: Seth Troxler at Zone Club in Prishtina, Kosovo

credits for pic:  Petrit Rrahmani Another weekend!!! And what a weekend! Great artists from Pristina’s underground scene warmed up the dance floor of the  Zone Club  on Bajram. Then the brilliant  Seth Trolex  took away the playful mass with his melodic 7 hour set. credits for pic:  Petrit Rrahmani My friends and I entered  Zone Club  at 2:30AM. We listened to tracks played by  Secret 47  with  Nappy G  on percussions. An interesting performance for the electronic scene but successful. Half an hour later, at exactly 03AM,  Seth Troxler  performed for 4 hours on the enclosed indoor stage. Then the party was moved outside to the open air terrasse of  Zone club. credits for pic:  Petrit Rrahmani Seth Troxler  played a further three hours from sunrise. Phenomenal experience! From 10AM,  Uran B.  (dj from Prishtina) spinned some great tracks for the audience who did not want to leave the sunny terrace of  Zone Club.   However, I did not stay until the end. It was enough danc

A Belgian Impression of Next level's 11th Anniversary with Rebekah!

Photo credit to  Petrit Rrahmani            After a long journey through Europe, we entered Kosovo. We decided to stop at the capital of Kosovo - Pristina. Surprisingly, we found out about  Next Level’s  “11th Anniversary” Event with the UK-born/Berlin-based DJ -  Rebekah . We decided to attend the event.            That night, the host -  Next level, celebrated it’s 11th anniversary , and hellboy, they know how to do it!!! When we entered the venue (ODA Theatre - in the center of Prishtina), we were welcomed by heavy Techno beats and a large LED video wall. Visualisation was so great and powerful! "Kosovo is on the top of techno scene and they really have very good clubbing life.               We were amazed and shocked, in a positive way of course, as this party was all you want for a night out! The 11 years of experience of “ Next leve l”, certainly showed us how the Electronic Music Scene in Kosovo is growing, in fact, the Techno scene, what we wouldn’t

Zoom Festival, Leposavic, Kosovo

It’s the “Zoom” festival organized by TMM records and Radio KFOR  And trust me, I have waited to overcome the bad feelings I had at the start of the party there. But somehow, I can’t get them out of my head. After the successful festival in Mitro “Feel the Peace” where everything was unbelievably super cool, with super young people who want to hang out and listen to music and in the hope that it would be the same in Leposavic, if not better, I was disappointed a little bit. You won’t believe me, but there are still people there that mix up some things, and I expected that in Mitro, but no, it happened in Leposavic. Even though the House of Culture was reserved for the festival, both with an oral and written agreement, and music was supposed to start at 8pm and go on till 4am. But, the karate players had to hold their three hour long training (till 10pm); otherwise they would have practiced karate on us. Then, before the party, a man, dead serious, told me that he is sure

Black Sun Empire @ ODA, Prishtina, Kosovo

Presale tickets for this event were 3 euro and 4 euro if you bought them at the door. DNB-KS was the organizer. This was the third big event they organized. Before that, they brought Big Bud from London and DJ Lynx also from London, and now Black Sun Empire from Holland.  ODA is a great underground place, at least I like it, it’s totally my type of place. It’s in the center of the city, it’s underground, secluded, you don’t bother anyone. There’s a bar at the entrance, and after that a great spacious room, with a great stage and on both sides there are steps, where you can easily sit down and not bother anyone. And the sound system is good too. Labinot Sponca (a local DJ) was the warm up act. What did he spin? DnB. And I love everything that shakes you up and carries your entire body. All the way till Black Sun Empire started my group of friends was jumping. Even one of our friends who didn’t expect that we’d take her drumming, and she too jumped and shook all the time.  And
