Carl Cox: "Illegal raves are happening because young people are frustrated"

The growing number of illegal raves sweeping the UK is down to young people feeling frustrated that nightclubs are still closed – despite lockdown lifting, says DJ Carl Cox. 



The illegal scene is thriving during the coronavirus crisis because there is still no timeline on clubs and festivals reopening.

"These illegal parties are basically done out of frustration. Just done out of showing it's our right to do what we want to do. It's not the answer to this," he said. 

Police have been forced to shut down raves all over the country, including two in Manchester attended by 6,000 people, where there was an alleged drug death, rape and three stabbings. 

During the COVID-19 lockdown, he has been doing his sets online instead and is taking part in a virtual reality festival called Lost Horizon with Fatboy Slim this weekend.

But despite this "new way of doing things", not everyone is content with virtual partying.

Tillt Radio Record Store, Prishtina, Kosovo

Tillt Radio  is a new record store in Prishtina, opened 1 year ago. Located at BOHO in Prishtina's square, Tillt Radio record store is a very  warm place  where you can go  hang out , dig the crates for  vinyls  and enjoy  listening to music.  A while ago, I took a trip to Prishtina to meet a friend and surprise her with a vinyl from her favorite label, Klockworks I got for her birthday. That day was all about music and vinyls so, while i was there, i decided to go and visit Tillt Radio record store. I was very happy and excited for visiting the first record store in my life . I've bought vinyls before, from online record stores, but crate digging for vinyls, is a different feeling. There's nothing like crate digging! We needed a record store like Tillt Radio.
